Cause

Clutch cover pressure plate assembly has been dropped during installation or transit causing stretched and damaged retracter clips. No gear selection or difficult engagement due to the reduced pressure plate lift.

Solution

Replace with a new cover assembly. Never use the dropped clutch.
A clutch is a precision component, treat in a careful manner.
