Abnormal sound with foot off clutch pedal (metal squeaking sound). Sound disappears with light pressure or full depression of the clutch pedal is applied.
Cause
Clutch release mechanism wear resulting in insufficient release bearing free play (cable system) or preload (hydraulic system) causes light or inadequate contactpressure onto the clutch diaphragm fingers. The noise generated by excessive bearing movement under low load may disappear when the clutch pedal is depressed.
Please note this is incorrect to pin a faulty release bearing as the noise does not occur under load.
Solution
Check and replace worn release mechanism parts before installation of new clutch. Adjust the amount of free play at the cable.
